What should I wear to my Rolfing session?

When preparing for a Rolfing session, it's best to wear comfortable, supportive clothing that provides ease of movement. Opt for clothing that is not restrictive and allows the Rolfer to access and work directly on the skin effectively. Stretchy cotton-based fabrics like yoga shorts, athletic top for women or other sports wear are good choices. Avoid clothing with belts, zippers, or buttons which may hinder the session. Synthetic material like spandex, nylon or polyester tend to offer too much glide and makes accessing the body’s fascial structures difficult. Additionally, wearing layers is a good idea so you can adjust your comfort level as needed during the session. Remember to remove any jewelry or accessories that could interfere with the session. Lastly, the ultimately choice of clothing is always to the discretion of each client. Please wear what will make you feel comfortable to the session.

Rolfing Structural Integration is a holistic approach to bodywork that aims to improve posture, alignment, and overall well-being. Developed by Dr. Ida Rolf, this method focuses on manipulating the body's connective tissues to create a more balanced and harmonious structure in gravity. By applying specific manual techniques, Rolfing practitioners work to release restrictions and realign the body's segments, resulting in improved movement, increased flexibility, and decreased pain.

What is Rolfing® Structural Integration?

During a Rolfing session, the practitioner uses their hands and sometimes elbows to apply pressure and gentle manipulation to the client's body. The goal is to address imbalances and tension patterns that have developed over time, often due to factors such as poor posture, injuries, or emotional stress. Through a series of sessions, the client's body is systematically reorganized, allowing for greater ease of movement and a sense of overall integration. Rolfing is not only about physical changes; it also recognizes the mind-body connection and its impact on our well-being. By addressing both the physical and emotional aspects, Rolfing aims to promote a sense of wholeness and alignment in the individual.

Neuromuscular Reprogramming is a technique aimed at improving movement patterns and muscle function by targeting the nervous system's control over muscles. Through specific exercises and movements, this approach seeks to retrain the brain's connections with muscles, enhancing coordination, strength, and flexibility. By addressing faulty movement patterns and restoring proper muscle activation, Neuromuscular Reprogramming can help individuals overcome chronic pain, improve athletic performance, and prevent injuries.

What is Neuromuscular Reprograming® (NMR)?

One key aspect of Neuromuscular Reprogramming is its focus on proprioception, the body's ability to sense its position in space. By honing in on proprioceptive feedback, practitioners can refine motor skills and enhance body awareness. This method often involves slow, controlled movements and corrective exercises designed to teach the body optimal movement patterns, leading to more efficient and coordinated muscle activation.

Incorporating Neuromuscular Reprogramming into a fitness or rehabilitation regimen can yield significant benefits for individuals looking to enhance their movement quality and overall physical performance. By retraining the brain-muscle connections, this approach can lead to improved muscle recruitment, reduced risk of injury, and enhanced functional movement patterns, contributing to better overall health and well-being.
